Application Process

We believe in a purposeful and holistic admissions process: Every part of the application is important to us as we learn more about your student.

We look forward to getting to know you and your family through the application process, and welcoming our next class of students to 91ÊÓƵ!

Applications for the 2026 - 2027 school year are now open. The application deadline is Thursday, January 15, 2026, for all grade levels.

If you are interested in applying for the 2025-2026 school year, please reach out to the admissions team, space is still available on a limited basis by grade.

Please find an overview of the application process below and contact the admissions team for any questions you may have.

1. Create Your Application Profile

You can complete your admissions application through either the Ravenna platform, or the Standard Application Online (SAO). To get started, create an online account, locate 91ÊÓƵ in the directory, and complete the Preliminary Application.

The Preliminary Application has two parts: an Application for Admission Form, and a non-refundable application fee. If the application fee presents a challenge for your family, please reach out to our admissions team to request a waiver.

You can create your account and complete the Preliminary Application in less than 30 minutes. Upon completion of the Preliminary Application, you will see a list of required next steps, forms, documents, and deadlines in your online application portal.

2. Schedule Interviews and Student Visit Day

We invite students and their parents/guardians to learn more about the 91ÊÓƵ experience through the required Interview and Student Visit Days application steps.

Pre-registration for both Interviews and Student Visit Days is required through Ravenna. Applicants using the SAO application portal are invited to contact the admissions team to sign up for your preferred date.

Interviews
Interviews are hosted by 91ÊÓƵ faculty members and include time for students and their families to ask questions. Requirements vary by grade level:

  • Parent/Guardian Interviews – Middle School applicants (6th, 7th, and 8th grade)
  • Student Interviews – Interviews are required for applicants entering at non-traditional grade levels (7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade), and are optional for 9th grade applicants.
  • Pathways Planning is a new part of the admissions interview process for Upper School applicants in 2025-26 (required for applicants to 10th , 11th, and 12th grade; optional for 9th grade applicants).
These interviews allow for our admissions or academic team to: explore applicants' academic interests and goals; discuss how students can maximize their 91ÊÓƵ experience through programs, clubs, and travel; begin drafting a four-year roadmap to reflect these emerging interests; and potentially evaluates English readiness for ELL students.
3. Request School Transcripts and Teacher Recommendations

Please request the submission of official school transcripts for the current school year (2025-2026, when available) and the previous two school years (2024 - 2025 and 2023 - 2024).

If your student has attended more than one school during this timeframe, you will need to send a separate transcript request to all previous schools. Transcript requests can be completed through the online application portal. For 91ÊÓƵschool Applicants, we request additional information to better understand their learning program (see below).

Additionally, we request two teacher evaluations and one school administrator report. The application portal provides the request forms and guidance on who to request these evaluations from for your student.

4. Complete the Additional Application Forms

There are three written components of the application for your family to complete by the application deadline.

The forms include:

  • Student Essay
  • Student Interests & Activities

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can my child apply to 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade?

Absolutely! While these grades may not be traditional entry points, we actively welcome applications and encourage families to reach out. Space availability varies year to year, but we’d love to connect, learn more about your child, and explore how they can thrive in our community. If you're curious, don’t hesitate to apply or contact us—we’re here to help!

Note About Standardized Testing for Admissions

    Standardized Test Scores (Optional)
91ÊÓƵ is now Test Optional for all applicants, grades 6–12. Families may choose to submit any standardized test results (SSAT, ISEE, MAP, state assessments, or school-based tests like ERB/STAR) if they think that these scores add meaningful context to their child’s academic profile.

Submitting scores is entirely optional and not submitting does not disadvantage an applicant in any way. All applications are reviewed holistically, and test scores — if included — are considered as just one component of the broader picture.

International applicants are still required to submit English proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, etc.).

Have questions? Please reach out to us. We are happy to discuss whether testing could support your child’s application or placement.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Applications for financial aid are due at the time of application to the school. Financial aid applications are completed via Clarity. Learn more about our application process here.

    91ÊÓƵschooled Applicants

For applicants who are applying from homeschool, we ask for some additional information to better understand your learning program. We ask that the coordinator(s) of your student's program create a brief overview of the program. We suggest inclusion of the following:

          • Goals of the program and educational philosophy
          • Description of the approach to teaching and learning:
          • Structure and timing of program
          • Links to curriculum and/or online course information
          • Important texts read/used
          • Types of assignments, projects, and volume of workload
          • If this was a cohort homeschool program, please include the number of students and grade levels
          • If you worked with a certificated teacher to provide your homeschool programming, please include teacher names and contact information
          • For the current year and two previous years: courses taken, topics covered, and any grades/grading scale, if one was used
          • A current year writing and math assessment
          • If student is a Washington state resident: A copy of the Annual Assessment or state standardized test score report, as required by the state of Washington for the years the student was homeschooled
          • If student is not a Washington state resident: Please include any state-mandated testing/assessments as applicable

A note on Teacher Evaluations: We require two teacher evaluations as a part of the application. We recommend at least one of the teacher evaluations is submitted by a non-family member whenever possible. Other recommenders to consider are coaches, tutors, mentors, or other adults in the student's life.

Early Admissions for 91ÊÓƵ Siblings, Alumni, and Faculty Families

The heart of 91ÊÓƵ lies in its diverse and interconnected community. If applicants have siblings currently enrolled, if their parents or siblings are alumni, or if they are part of our faculty's family, they qualify for consideration in the early Community Deadline process (grades 6-12).

The early community deadline for the 2026-2027 school year is November 6, 2025.

Please note, while this gives families within our community an opportunity to hear earlier about their admissions decision, it does not change how an application is reviewed or perceived in the process. Questions? Please reach out to the admissions team for further information.

          International Applicants
All in all, it was a surprisingly pleasant process, and I learned a lot throughout. NWS staff came across as professional, charismatic and engaging, which I appreciate very much. We are excited to start in the fall!
