
Kj Dye
Performing Arts Teacher
KJ Dye (she/they) is a dance artist, educator, and collaborator who uses movement as a vehicle for transformation, truth-telling, and community building. Their work engages embodiment, justice, and collective becoming through performance, facilitation, and somatic inquiry. With over 13 years of teaching experience in pre-K, after-school programs, and higher education, KJ has taught across the Puget Sound at Velocity Dance Center, Cornish College of the Arts, Dance Fremont, Bainbridge Dance Center, Bellevue College, Bremerton Dance Center, eXit SPACE, Kent School District, Federal Way Public Schools and Pacific Lutheran University.
KJ holds an MFA in Dance from The Ohio State University with a specialization in Teaching and Learning for Diversity, Social Justice, and Community Engagement and a Bachelor of the Arts in Dance Education and Minor in Photographic Studies from Slippery Rock, PA. While at OSU, they served as a Graduate Associate with Be the Street, a performance studies project on human mobility and placemaking, and received the 2021 Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA). As a performer, KJ has worked with Seattle based companies Michele Miller & Catapult Dance, Marlo Martin’s BadmamarDANCE, and The Three Yells, and collaborated with artists including Maya Soto, Nico Tower, Paige Barnes, Ellie Sandstrom, Eddie Taketa, Daniel Roberts, Ursula Payne, and Jennifer Keller.Â
KJ is a certified Embodied Social Justice Practitioner. Their teaching and research integrate embodied social justice and somatics to challenge disembodiment and empower students to connect with their bodies, communities, and creative voices.
